For this piece, Darin wanted to have a conversation about cookout culture in the Black South. It is a time for black people to congregate, share dishes, listen to music and celebrate one another. He is also interested in using symbols in his practice. This is why he chose to use Cajun seasoning as a source of material in this work. When going to his family and friends’ cookouts, Cajun is on almost every dish they eat.
